Benefits for your School

The woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.
–Henry David Thoreau

Give your classroom teachers the needed pedagogy, experiences, and resources to lead musical activities throughout the day!

Even though they are probably not trained musicians the classroom teachers can learn to:

Confidently lead singing activities,

Lead developmentally appropriate movement activities,

Use rhythm instruments effectively with the children, and

Engage the children in focused listening experiences.

Why should you choose music education training for your classroom teachers, especially if you already have a music specialist?

Most music specialists only meet with the children once or twice a week.

12% of contact time with young children should be devoted to musical activities—about an hour a day.  This is the recommendation of early childhood professionals in music and development fields.

Every child deserves to grow up with music integrated into the full fabric of learning, not as an isolated event that happens once a week.

Having trained classroom teachers able to infuse purposeful and fun music activities can be an attractive feature to families when promoting your school.

Why I can give your classroom teachers the tools to successfully integrate music and movement into their day

Many classroom teachers don’t feel confident in teaching music skills—even if they had a music methods class in college.  Having taught these courses at the University of Miami for many years, I understand their level of frustration and trepidation.  My teaching style seeks to put the teachers at ease and provide a safe, stress-free learning environment.

My 20+ years of teacher training and 25+ years of teaching music to young children is a unique combination that provides me with the experience needed to assess the needs of your faculty, create a workshop to meet those goals, and implement the plan.

Being a teacher educator for Musikgarten since its inception in 1994 has given me opportunities to be on the forefront of the latest research in early childhood music education, as well as up-to-date professional development teaching strategies.

I am certified by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning as approved Speciality Trainer in Music.

I believe that all children are musical and deserve music in their lives, and that music is effective in fostering the whole child’s development.  I also believe that non-music degreed teachers can play a major role in  fostering this development through music if given the appropriate resources.  A workshop needs to be inclusive of the following 3 elements:

WHY music should be integrated into their curriculum,

WHAT music experiences should be included, and

HOW to effectively present music and movement activities.
