Mary Louise Wilson, PhD
As Director of the Music Development Center I have many years of experience in providing professional development for teachers.
**Since 1994 I have been a teacher/educator for Musikgarten (an early childhood music company in Greensboro, NC) conducting teacher-training workshops throughout the US, Canada, England, Taiwan, South Korea, China, and Malaysia.
** Before moving to the Atlanta area, I served on the adjunct faculty at the University of Miami (FL) teaching fine arts methods courses for elementary education majors in the School of Education. For 24 years I was a UM Music Time program instructor with the School of Music.
**In addition to providing many hours of professional development through workshops, I am frequently invited to present at state, regional, and national music and early childhood conferences.
**In 2010 I became certified by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning as a Specialty Trainer in Music with Bright From the Start.
My degrees in music education are from the University of North Texas (BM and MME) and Louisiana State University (PhD). Currently I am Co-Director of the Children’s Music Development Center in Decatur, GA.
My publications include: Music Makers: At the Keyboard and Musikgarten Adults Enjoying the Piano Together.
I hold Level III certification, the highest level granted, from the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association and am in my 2nd term serving on the International Board as 1st Vice-President.
All learning should be pleasurable
This is a paraphrase from a quote by educator and biologist, Dr. Carla Hannaford. My goal is to motivate your teachers through a pleasurable learning experience to “want” to use music in the classroom throughout the day and feel comfortable in doing so.
